NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he enjoyed gambling on various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he would play extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He earned some additional cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and focus attention more on poker.
The definite advancement in his game happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. He was able to access a few of the foremost players in chess. With their help, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie is one of the strongest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in 1993 and played cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to play more tournaments.
