Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he loved gambling on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to participate in some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were tough as he played countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and concentrate even more on the game.

The real improvement in his skills happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would often compete against one another. He had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategic ideas in the game of NL Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a great student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the greatest female players the poker world has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the following 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
