No-Limit Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a normal basis.
