Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandfather showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
