NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
