Poker Face

Do you ever obtain that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest betting house, to uncover a superior stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Black jack table for hours on end. I like that itch. And I like to scratch it.

I also love to watch men and women bet. No 2 poker faces seem equal. When I bet I like to consider I put on a poker face that’s impassable. Except I know I’ve certain actions. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I wager on poker or Pontoon. And then I chain smoke. But I chain smoke whether I am winning or losing, no matter whether I’ve a good hand or bad.

I once bet within a weekly poker game. The game was always five card draw. There was a person who played with us just about every week who usually wore a hat. When he was dealt a excellent hand, subconsciously, he would start touching and betting with his hat. Needless to say, he never won.

The greatest poker gambler I ever saw was a person who manufactured far more movements and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever seen. He was impeccable in the way he dressed. Often an expensive suit and tie, footwear shined and nails trimmed. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was often brushing his pants or rubbings his hands or putting his chips in neat little piles.

I use to analyze him for long periods of time. I would attempt to see if I could spot his tell. Choosing fuzz off his shirt- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips in a short pile – did this mean he had a good hand?

Years later I ran into him in a bar in Vegas and we had a beverage. I asked him if he were aware of all those motions he manufactured or if they were subconscious. He told me that every single individual thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everybody is constantly checking out everyone else’s poker face. They are attempting to spot the the tell.

So his program was to give them lots to consider about. His thinking was if they were pondering about him picking a piece of lint off his jacket and what it meant they sure weren’t pondering about their cards.

His program was diversion. And it worked for him. Never give up a process that functions for you.
