Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player.
