NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
