Omaha Hi Lo: General Outline
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi-low starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to each player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is known as the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where some players can get confused. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in just about all poker games.
The low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the lowest being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem difficult at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an exciting array of betting possibilities and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high, along with many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
