Omaha Hi Lo: General Summary
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of wagering ensues and then the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players get confused. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a couple of rounds you will be agile enough to get the basic nuances of the game with ease. Since you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing array of betting possibilities and seeing that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, and many battling for the low.
