Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
